This is a profound initiative where Diego F. Maya established an empowerment project around a sewing shop in South America to uplift forty girls with no parents, survivors of sexual violence and trafficking. Through sewing and entrepreneurship the girls will be empowered. As future mothers, they’ll find a positive side of humanity, learning to upcycle jeans and recycle book bags. Their finest creations will be sold in the US, sharing their stories to raise funds and establish scholarships or provide a starting business capital for them when they turn 18. This project not only offers hope but also builds a sustainable future for these brave girls.

Maya estableció un proyecto de empoderamiento en torno a un taller de costura en Sudamérica para ayudar a cuarenta niñas sin padres, sobrevivientes de la violencia sexual y la trata de personas. A través de la costura y el espíritu emprendedor, las niñas se empoderarán. Como futuras madres, descubrirán el lado positivo de la humanidad, aprendiendo a reciclar jeans y mochilas. Sus mejores creaciones se venderán en los EE. UU., compartiendo sus historias para recaudar fondos y establecer becas o proporcionarles un capital comercial inicial cuando cumplan 18 años. Este proyecto no solo ofrece esperanza, sino que también construye un futuro sostenible para estas valientes niñas.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
WELCOME TO Hope for Girls, a US LATINO AFFAIRS INITIATIVE a transformative initiative dedicated to uplifting 40 young survivors of sexual violence and trafficking in Colombia's "eje cafetero" region. Under the care of the Colombian government, these brave girls receive crucial education and psychological treatment.
OUR MISSION began in 2022 when founder Diego F. Maya, moved by their plight, established a sewing machine shop within their foundation. Here, the girls learn valuable skills such as discipline, determination, entrepreneurship, and sewing, empowering them with the tools to build a brighter future.

BIENVENIDAS A Hope for Girls, una INICIATIVA DE ASUNTOS LATINOS DE EE. UU., una iniciativa transformadora dedicada a ayudar a 40 jóvenes sobrevivientes de violencia sexual y trata en la región del "eje cafetero" de Colombia. Bajo el cuidado del gobierno colombiano, estas valientes niñas reciben educación crucial y tratamiento psicológico.
NUESTRA MISIÓN comenzó en 2022 cuando el fundador Diego F. Maya, conmovido por su difícil situación, estableció un taller de máquinas de coser dentro de su fundación. Aquí, las niñas aprenden habilidades valiosas como disciplina, determinación, espíritu emprendedor y costura, empoderándolas con las herramientas para construir un futuro más brillante.

HOPE FOR GIRLS happened to coincide with the harsh realities depicted in "Breaking the Chains," a film that underscores the urgency of combating child trafficking. Our project demonstrates to these young survivors that compassion and support exist worldwide, especially from those in the US who care deeply about global issues.
BY TEACHING these girls to upcycle used jeans and recycle book bags, we not only provide practical skills but also foster a sense of purpose and self-reliance. The most significant creations are brought back to the US, sold alongside the powerful stories of the hands that crafted them, to raise funds and establish scholarships.

Nuestro proyecto demuestra a estas jóvenes sobrevivientes que la compasión y el apoyo existen en todo el mundo, especialmente de parte de quienes en los EE. UU. se preocupan profundamente por los problemas globales.
AL ENSEÑAR a estas niñas a reciclar jeans usados y mochilas recicladas, no solo les proporcionamos habilidades prácticas, sino que también fomentamos un sentido de propósito y autosuficiencia. Las creaciones más significativas se traen de regreso a los EE. UU., se venden junto con las poderosas historias de las manos que las elaboraron, para recaudar fondos y establecer becas.

ENGLISH TIMELINE2022 - Diego F. Maya delivers school materials, including new sneakers and bookbags.
2023 - The initiative is proposed to the foundation housing the girls. A plan is devised to initiate the project in Fall 2024.
Spring 2024 - At the beginning of the year, sewing machines, a flat-screen TV, and an air ventilator are delivered.
August 2024 - The first classes are scheduled. Two instructors are hired to work on Wednesdays and Saturdays with 23 of the 40 girls. The other girls, who are under 14, will be provided with videos of the work and will start to get acquainted with the equipment.

Diego F. Maya founded Hope for Girls to provide support and resources to girls affected by sex trafficking and abuse, offering educational opportunities and vocational training. His current portfolio includes two companies and a diverse range of projects and initiatives aimed at addressing specific needs within the Latino community and beyond. These include Latino Spirit Media, which produces professional multimedia content that informs, inspires, and empowers Latinos; Simultaneous Broadcasting Interpretations, providing interpretation services for municipalities and educational institutions; and the United States Latino Affairs Initiatives, a nonprofit focused on processing energy assistance applications for Passaic County residents. Other notable efforts include the Food on Tables Program, which distributes food to underserved communities; Community Forums that engage local officials in dialogues addressing Latino community issues; and The Latino Spirit, a platform showcasing Latino talents and contributions. Additionally, he runs NJ en Vivo, a Facebook page broadcasting live videos to foster community engagement, and the New Jersey Latino Red Carpet, an annual event celebrating Latino achievements.
